Colorado Rockies Foundation
Gives CHAMP Program $10,000

CHAMP (Character in Athletics -  Make it a Priority) recently received a $10,000 grant from the Colorado Rockies Foundation. Character Fort Collins and the CHAMP program are deeply grateful for this significant investment into the character development of thousands of young athletes impacted by the whole team experience, including the quality of both the skills and the character emphasis. On behalf of the coaches, parents, officials and players that will benefit from this support, Character Fort Collins and the CHAMP program thank the Colorado Rockies Foundation for making a strong statement about the importance of character in sports -- and for placing a value on youth and the coaches, parents, and other adults working overtime to ensure that kids develop good character as a foundation for all lasting success.

Character First! Best Attended Detention Center Program
Character Fort Collins has a long-standing relationship with the Larimer County Detention Center which offers a regular Character First! program to inmates. Over time, it has become the best attended inmate program of all. This photo shows an inmate working on an exercise to write a note to family or friends to express gratefulness for their support, to apologize and to take responsibility for the actions that led to the Detention Center sentence.

Growing Programs: Look for More Family Character Building Resources this Fall

For five years between 2003-2008, Character Fort Collins was heavily invested in leading and building a successful "character in youth athletics" program. Key board members poured most of their volunteer time into recruiting major partners and working with Healthier Communities Coalition to launch CHAMP.

Now, with the CHAMP program solidly off the ground, and with its strong leadership and broad community support, Character Fort Collins is working on growing new programs including more character-building opportunities for families. For example:

September 13, 2008
Look for Character Fort Collins at the HCC Family Summit at the Ranch.

October - December, 2008
Watch for Character Fort Collins' "Character Building in Families" TV shows on Poudre School District Channel 10. Three segments are scheduled to be produced this fall, in partnership with the Parent Education Network.
