Working together for a community of character!
Character Fort Collins is a community-wide initiative launched in the fall of 2001 through joint resolutions of the City of Fort Collins, the Larimer County Board of Commissioners, and the Poudre School District Board of Education. Later a similar resolution was also passed by Colorado State University. The signers of the resolutions pledged their own organizations' commitment to promoting good character in the community, and encouraged all citizens to do likewise.
Those resolutions launched our "Community of Character" initiative. In so doing, we joined over 150 other communities around the world affiliated through the International Association of Character Cities (IACC).
The Character Council of Greater Fort Collins, a 501(c)(3) corporation, was formed to guide the effort. We function under the "doing business as" name of Character Fort Collins and have now expanded beyond our city boundaries to Character Colorado.
For an outline of our goals, see Our Vision. We enthusiastically encourage you to join us and Get Involved! Together, with resolve, we can build and keep a community of character.
