Law Enforcement

We want to help bring character-based principles to law enforcement.

Character Fort Collins provides training, consultation, and resource materials to law enforcement personnel who want to build a strong culture of character in their organizations.

Law enforcement professionals face significant challenges in maintaining safe, peaceful communities. Increased concerns for homeland security, budget constraints, and population increases place high demands on them. Citizens correctly expect services that are reliable and trustworthy. Officers and staff, and their families, face significant pressures on the job and at home.

Often, the challenges that impair the full potential of law enforcement personnel and their organizations stem from character-based root causes. By using our program to enhance their culture of character, law enforcement orgaizations are experiencing real benefits, including better communication and improved morale.

To help law enforcment orgainizations, we primarily use a system based on resources developed by Character First!® and the Police Dynamics Institute. The goal is to build an operational framework in which character is systematically and purposefully emphasized, required, and recognized. Our training includes:

  • Understanding how unfavorable symptoms that impair trust and performance are related to character

  • Integrating a character focus into the organization

  • Creating a safe environment for employees to appeal decisions

  • Hiring for character

  • Character-based correction

  • Recognizing and praising the character of leaders and employees

TESTIMONIALS

"Character First! was the missing link in our efforts to promote integrity and professionalism in our department. All of our personnel now share a common language and philosophy when it comes to offering praise. We have incorporated "character" into our hiring, promotional, and evaluation processes as well as into our formal employee recognition program. Character First! gave us the means to actually do what we had previously only talked about doing; that is, focusing on the accomplishments of the vast majority of dedicated employees instead of on the failures or negative actions of a few employees. There is no doubt that Character First! has boosted morale and made the Larimer County Sheriff's Office an upbeat and exciting place to work."
